A community of neighbors and the homes in which we will live

We will have 19 condominiums plus a shared 4,500 square foot common house on a one-acre site with shared facilities for socializing, entertainment, exercise, group dining and crafts. There will be open space, fruit trees and gardens. Parking and storage will be underground, with elevator access and a security gate. All buildings will be energy efficient with universal design. The entire community will be smoke free.

Our residences and shared facilities are currently being designed by our members, working with award-winning architect Chuck Durrett.

The condominiums will range in size from about 1,360 to 2,050 square feet. With the exception of one large two-story town house, all units will be flats (entirely on one floor). The target prices are as follows:

Number of
Planned Homes
Estimated Cost Approximate
Square Feet
6 $750,000 1,360
9 $1,025,000 1,750
4 $1,250,000 2,050

Above the ground level, units will be connected by exterior sheltered walkways. An elevator will provide stair-free access to all 19 condominiums; it will operate from the underground garage to all three floors of the main building. Foot bridges on the second and third floors will link the main building to the smaller east building.

A secure underground garage is planned; it will provide space for two vehicles per unit.

More about the common house and other common areas

Our plan for shared facilities in the common house, located in the center of our community, is to have three floors, and to include:

  • Dining room (large enough to accommodate everyone in the community on occasion)
  • Kitchen (with a capacity to serve enough food for the whole community)
  • Media room
  • Crafts room
  • Workshop
  • Lounge
  • Guest room
  • Community office
  • Exercise room
  • Laundry (This is in addition to the option for each unit to have its own laundry facilities)
  • Mailboxes
Elsewhere on the grounds:
  • Terrace with barbecue
  • Hot tub
  • Raised beds for an organic vegetable garden
  • Bike storage
  • Caregiver facilities

Our progress

  • The community of households is already underway and growing.
  • We own the site on which we’ll build.
  • We have our architect —award winning Charles Durrett— and, with him, we’re drawing the plans.
  • We’re working on the steps to obtain approval for our plans from the City of Mountain View, and to secure financing for construction. Unit designs are almost complete; design of the common house will be completed later this year.
  • Our target date for occupancy is early 2013.
